When the manual doesn't tell the whole story

Using Winloader

Although the TD-824i and the TD-1648i have been discontinued for several years now, we still get requests every now and then to upgrade the software. This is primarily due to sites where the customers are adding new phones to the system. Older software versions for the TD-824i and TD-1648i do not support DK6 sets.  The software release for TD-824i that supports DK6 sets is G1-a21e.  The TD-1648i release supporting DK6 sets is G2-a31v.  If you have a customer’s KSU with older software, it does not support DK6 sets.  These are the final releases of software for these two products.  Both are available at TransTel Communications main website in the dealer support section.

Winloader software, is used for the upgrade and is available on our website. It is a bit of a workhorse, as we still use it to do some G2-IPU upgrades in the TDS series (TDS-40 and TDS-80). Winloader is also used for software upgrades for the G1e+ and the Lynx series of telephone systems.  The current version is 1.66.  If you have an older version installed on a service laptop, you should replace it.

It came to my attention that there is no definitive description of the process to upgrade. Fortunately, it’s pretty much the same as it has always been. In checking old notes, I found a complete description (at the time) from a 2002 backup of our website. I have updated it to include the newer systems. Otherwise it’s exactly the same as we presented back in 2002.

Oh… Winloader is included on every installation and documentation CD that we ship with the TDS series, G1e+ and Lynx, in a folder called “Winloader.” You can also download a copy from TransTel’s main website. Winloader Link
You may need a username and password to download this. If you already have a username/password combo, it should work. If you don’t, please give us a call so we can give you one.
